Since its foundation in 1963, the Doppelmayr Zoo has been an attraction for the whole family. During a leisurely walk through the park charmingly set on a hillside you will find coatis, tortoises, raccoons, donkeys and wallabies as well as all kinds of birds. At present there are more than 400 animals of 70 different species that can be discovered and observed in a habitat of about 20,000 m².
The birds live in big open-air enclosures at the pond and in aviaries and enclosures at the hillside of the zoo where visitors can watch not only rare duck species but also amazon parrots, cockatoos and parakeets. Bird species such as snow owls and pheasants also live in the zoo.
East of the road leading to neighboring Bildstein, a spacious enclosure was created for the fallow deer, sheep and alpacas. Even though the animals have ample opportunities for retreat, they also enjoy being around when visitors are nearby. The yaks, rheas and Bennett’s wallabies are the exotic animals of the zoo that attract young and old visitors alike.
There is a lot of action in the Doppelmayr Zoo, especially in the springtime when the young animals are born. The cute pot-bellied piglets, pygmy goats, peachicks and ducklings are loved especially by the young visitors.
Do not feed the animals
The Doppelmayr Zoo is located beyond the company premises in Wolfurt-Rickenbach and open to the public all year round. The zoo area is also accessible by strollers so nothing stands in the way of a family excursion. All dogs must be leashed. Free parking is available at the sports field next to Bildsteinerstraße and outside the working hours at the Doppelmayr parking area at Kellaweg.
