The new Galzigbahn sets technological and architectural benchmarks for the future of ropeway construction. The demands to be met by the installation presented a great challenge: The new lift needed to have a high transport capacity, very high wind stability and therefore operational reliability, and to cope with large rope spans. A Funitel in combination with a world first for the ropeway sector was developed jointly with Arlberger Bergbahnen as the optimal solution. Thanks to the nine-meter-high “big wheels”, the whole experience of getting on and off the lift will be something quite unique for passengers as well as saving them the use of stairs. The bottom station has all-round glazing. That exposes the ropeway technology to view from the outside while making the magnificent mountain scenery visible from within.
